Horizons new

Posted on | August 9, 2009 |

Every so often I get the urge to move house.  What this means, I now know, is that I don’t actually want to move my place of residence, but that I wish to move myself personally to a new, more invigorating space. The mind uses metaphors.

Nevertheless, I act on this impulse to the extent that I do a thorough overhaul of a lot of my life.  I throw things away.  I recycle other things.  I make donations.  In fact I clear the decks physically so that I can open up space mentally.  The Unconscious gets the message that new horizons are opening up, and it becomes more open in its turn. Then things DO turn up, because the heart is open.

I tidy the place I’m in with an eye to thinking about what a potential new occupant would expect to see - and that’s when I realize how many things I’ve left half-done.  I try to complete them, and feel a whole lot better even if I make barely a small dent in those tasks.

We can’t allow new things into our lives until we have let go of the old.  Whether we do this only in physical terms, or in spiritual terms, the two actually feed each other.

It’s good to shake things up.
