Murder and the US

Posted on | April 2, 2009 |

Perhaps I shouldn’t have written, two posts ago, about how there’s a tendency in the US for people not to protest on the streets and instead to turn to private violence.

Why? Because it happened again, this time in Brighampton NY.  If you followed today’s news an Asian-American man entered a facility for helping immigrants, barricaded himself in, killed at least 12 with a ‘high powered rifle’, and then took his own life.

I don’t know about you but this is an emerging pattern, one that deserves some scrutiny and some real action. Virginia Tech, and so on, springs to mind. We could restrict gun sales, of course, but we all know how difficult that has been.  So, what should be done?  And no, I don’t think that closing all the centers that help immigrants is a solution.
